Your Team Responsibilities

Enterprise Quality & Operations is a function that manages the cross-functional and company-level Quality Center of Excellence. It is comprised of experienced professionals with technology and data operations backgrounds that provide services and solutions to improve MSCI’s operational quality and advance its maturity levels. 

The Controls Management team primarily facilitates oversight and testing of regulatory-related controls, as well as non-regulatory requirements. It is responsible for developing a comprehensive framework that includes setting core objectives, identifying key workstreams, establishing measurable success KPIs, and assigning clear ownership responsibilities particularly in the Control Management Quality Pillar. Its members have more than 50 years of combined expertise in IT audit, controls, and data operations. Currently, this team has a presence in the Pune, Mumbai, New York, and Manila locations.  

The AI & Controls Engineering Specialist,based out of either the MSCI Mumbai or Pune offices is a key contributor enabling the team to perform internal management testing of controls through automation frameworks. This role also engages and collaborates with various stakeholders in designing, implementing, and assessing MSCI’s internal regulatory and non-regulatory controls. The primary focus of this individual contributor role is to design and and build scalable automation and AI-driven solutions to validate the effectiveness of technology controls. This includes developing data-driven testing frameworks, leveraging system-level integrations, and applying advanced analytics to enhance the efficiency, consistency, and coverage of control validation processes. This role plays a critical part in scaling MSCI’s control environment through automation and AI, strengthening governance and expanding the reach of control validation across regulatory and non-regulatory frameworks.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build engineering solutions to address complex control validation challenges, including large-scale data analysis and automated testing pipelines.
  • Develop scalable automation frameworks leveraging data, APIs, and system-level integrations to validate control design and operating effectiveness.
  • Leverage AI and advanced analytics (e.g., anomaly detection, pattern recognition, and generative AI) to enhance control testing, evidence validation, and risk identification.
  • Support the design and implementation of various data and technology internal control frameworks, to ensure teams implement IT-related controls to meet both regulatory and non-regulatory requirements. These include – but not limited to – the US Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) program, Sustainability & Climate (S&C) standards, EU Benchmark Administration regulations and standards business process controls, IT general controls (ITGCs), IT application controls, etc.
  • Build relationships and collaborate with control owners, Internal Audit, external audit, and other key stakeholders throughout the annual planning, scoping, control execution, testing, and issue management activities.
  • Perform assessments to identify potential weaknesses in internal controls through management testing of IT controls.
  • Contribute to and influence mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
  • Assist in ensuring continuous compliance with regulatory requirements and international standards.
  • Identify opportunities to integrate internal controls into business processes.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and changes to both regulatory and non-regulatory requirements.
  • Support special projects, such as process integrations and technology transformation initiatives.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • 3-6 years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in the financial services industry.  
  • Hands-on experience developing data-intensive or business-critical applications.
  • Proficiency in coding with Python. Experience in Java is a plus.
  • Experience working with data pipelines, APIs, or system integrations.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure and Google Cloud) and modern data architectures is a plus.
  • Exposure to AI/ML or data analytics techniques, ideally applied to risk, audit, or quality functions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, presentation, negotiation, and time management skills.
  • Diligent, relentless, and persistent in coordinating with counterparts from other teams and departments in another region or time zone.
  • Effective relationship building with partners in technology and data operations to accomplish critical goals.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight, short-term deadlines.  
  • Experience as an information technology professional (technology audit experience a plus)
  • Knowledge of user access, change management, software development, system architecture, databases, and operating systems. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of applications and experience with the use of a variety of applications such as auditing tools, ServiceNow, Salesforce, SAP, and/or Workday is an advantage.
