Your Team Responsibilities

The MSCI Institute is seeking a technically ambitious summer intern to explore the frontier of AI-powered research and automation within a leading global investment intelligence firm. This role sits at the intersection of applied AI, capital markets research, and enterprise tool development. You will work directly with the Institute's Research Director to identify, prototype, and evaluate opportunities where AI agents can augment and accelerate high-impact research workflows, spanning capital markets, geoeconomics, and sustainability and clmate analytics.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • AI Agent Development — Design, build, and test AI agents using MSCI's suite of AI tools and APIs, translating research and analytical workflows into automated, scalable solutions.
  • Agentification Scoping — Map existing Institute research functions and processes to identify high-value candidates for automation or AI augmentation, producing a structured inventory of opportunities with implementation recommendations.
  • Applied AI Research — Conduct original research on emerging AI methodologies — including multi-agent systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and LLM fine-tuning — and assess their applicability to investment and ESG research contexts.
  • Deliverables & presentation — Report findings and prototypes directly to the Research Director, contributing to internal publications, presentations, and strategic recommendations on AI adoption within the Institute.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

Core (Required)

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a closely related field
  • Hands-on experience with Python and relevant ML/AI libraries
  • Understanding of API integration
  • Experience working with large data-sets (quantitative, qualitative and abstract)

Strong Plus

  • Exposure to agentic workflows, multi-agent orchestration, or RAG architectures
  • Experience with data analysis, quantitative methods, or statistical modeling
  • Familiarity with financial markets, capital markets research
  • Prior internship, research project, or coursework at the intersection of AI and a domain application (finance, policy, climate, etc.)

Personal Attributes

  • Intellectually curious with a bias toward building and experimentation
  • Ability to communicate technical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous, research-oriented environment with significant autonomy
