Your Team Responsibilities

The MSCI Index Research team is responsible for the ongoing construction and management of all MSCI Market Cap, Factor, Thematic, Capped, Custom, and Climate & Sustainability Indexes across both Equity and Fixed Income.

This position is ideal for a results-driven, tech-curious self-starter with a strong analytical mindset and an interest in applying AI and automation to financial research.
You will have a unique opportunity to work in a cross-functional global research environment, collaborate with experts in index design and methodology, and gain early exposure to AI-driven process improvement.

The program offers hands-on experience in the mechanics of index construction, governance, and the investment management ecosystem, while also developing the technical and digital skills required to thrive in an AI-augmented research environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

As an Index Research Intern in Monterrey, you will be looked to primarily support the Global Index Research and Development Team by assisting with both analytical and operational activities that leverage AI tools and automation. Your responsibilities include:

  • Preparing, validating, and analyzing data to support index reviews, rebalances, and research initiatives.
  • Monitoring global developments in investment management, portfolio construction, and asset allocation trends, and contributing insights to methodology research.
  • Supporting process-heavy and administrative tasks such as information gathering, documentation, report generation, and dashboard updates to improve team efficiency.
  • Assisting in index construction, policy research, and methodology testing under the guidance of senior researchers.
  • Collaborating with global stakeholders and serving as a liaison between internal teams such as IT, DCS, and Corporate Events to ensure smooth coordination of project workflows.
  • Leveraging AI-assisted tools and automation scripts to collect, clean, and analyze data, summarize information, and generate analytical outputs.
  • Identifying and implementing automation opportunities, designing and testing AI workflows to improve scalability, accuracy, and process efficiency.
  • Contributing to AI model development and process documentation, ensuring new tools align with MSCI’s data integrity and governance standards.
  • Acting as an early adopter and co-developer of AI solutions, providing feedback on AI tools and suggesting improvements for broader Index Research adoption.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • Excellent English communication skills, verbal and written. A must.
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint knowledge.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted productivity tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, or equivalent).
  • Basic experience with automation or scripting (e.g., Python or other programming environments).
  • Foundational understanding of AI applications in data analysis, such as data cleaning, summarization, or workflow automation.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of Equity Analysis and Equity Investment Process, Institutional Investment Practices and Buy Side Portfolio Management concepts.
  • Students from 5th semester and up in Finance, Economics, Engineering, related careers with a GPA of 90/100.
  • Graduation date: not earlier than December 2026.
  • A self-starter and highly motivated individual, with the ability to work individually and within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects under tight, short-term deadlines.
  • Ability to work efficiently with diverse cultures on a global team.
  • Demonstrated curiosity for technology, AI, and innovation in global financial markets.
