As a Salesperson, Private Assets based in Tokyo, Japan, you will play a key role in expanding MSCI’s footprint among Limited Partners (LPs) including asset owners, General Partners (GPs), and other private market participants in Japan.

With private capital markets experiencing rapid evolution and growing demand for transparency, data-driven insights, and analytics, this role offers the chance to help leading investors leverage MSCI’s benchmarking, portfolio analytics, and data solutions to manage and optimize their private asset portfolios.

You will be responsible for driving the full sales cycle—from prospecting and qualification through to closing and onboarding—while collaborating with global teams to deliver best-in-class client outcomes. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the growth of MSCI’s Private Assets franchise in an entrepreneurial, dynamic, and highly visible role.

Your Key Responsibilities

Market Development & Revenue Generation

  • Lead new business origination with private market investors—particularly LPs (AO) and GPs—across Japan.
    • Promote MSCI’s benchmarking frameworks, performance measurement tools, portfolio analytics, and private asset data solutions.
    • Identify and develop new business opportunities aligned with MSCI’s commercial priorities in the private assets segment.
    • Meet and exceed sales targets through disciplined pipeline management and strategic account planning.

Strategic Sales Execution

  • Manage the end-to-end sales process, including lead qualification, needs analysis, solution presentation, pricing, negotiation, and contracting.
    • Navigate complex decision-making structures within client organizations.
    • Maintain accurate sales forecasting and CRM records to ensure transparency and accountability.

Client & Market Engagement

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior executives, including CIOs, Heads of Investment, Portfolio Managers, and Investor Relations professionals.
    • Represent MSCI at industry events, conferences, and roundtables to enhance brand presence and thought leadership.
    • Stay informed on market trends, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics impacting Japan’s private capital landscape.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Product Management, Research, Relationship Management, and Client Service teams to deliver tailored, high-value solutions.
• Provide client and market feedback to product and strategy teams to inform innovation and enhance MSCI’s offerings.
• Coordinate with regional and global colleagues to ensure seamless client experiences and alignment of commercial strategy.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • 5+ years of sales or business development experience in private markets, financial data, analytics, or asset management.
    • Demonstrated success engaging institutional clients, particularly private equity, private debt, or infrastructure investors.
    • Strong understanding of private asset performance measurement, benchmarking, and portfolio analytics.
    • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder sales processes and influence senior decision-makers.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills in both Japanese and English.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, CFA, CAIA, or equivalent) preferred.
    • Highly motivated self-starter with strong commercial acumen, integrity, and collaboration mindset.
