Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI ESG Research adds value to financial markets by transforming unstructured and inconsistently reported sustainability data into insights that inform better investment decisions. The ESG Rating model development team is looking for a detail-oriented researcher focused on developing models and methodologies to evaluate sustainability risks and opportunities. The selected candidate will support model maintenance and enhancements for MSCI’s existing sovereign ESG products and contribute to strategic innovation initiatives aimed at launching new products and datasets. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance MSCI’s existing sovereign ESG rating methodologies and models
  • Develop new quantitative models and analytical frameworks for measuring sovereign and sub-sovereign ESG risks based on regulatory and other alternative datasets
  • Use statistical methods and programing to analyze, interpret, and visualize data
  • Implement, test and document new computations used in scoring models
  • Collaborate with other teams such as Data, Application Development etc. to deliver the developed solutions to clients
  • Communicate complex topics in a simple way to internal and external stakeholders not familiar with the topics

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • Experience working on building analytical frameworks, credit ratings/ rankings of countries, and developing scorecards using large macro-economic data sets (for example: United Nations, World Bank, Eurostat, etc.)
  • Strong analytical capabilities and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and software development, particularly Python are a must-have. Familiarity with AI/ML techniques would be a plus.
  • Advanced educational background and experience in the fields of climate, economics, finance, sustainability, or credit ratings
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural and geographically distributed team
