Your Team Responsibilities

We are seeking a technically skilled Geospatial Technical Researcher to join our Carbon Markets team. This role will support the development and delivery of geospatial models and analysis into the integrity and long-term supply of carbon crediting projects.

 

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in geospatial programming and analysis and a background in climate, carbon cycle or environmental sciences. Experience with parallel computing and cloud deployment are preferred.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work with large raster datasets using GDAL, rasterio, xarray/rioxarray, and parallel processing tools like Dask or multiprocessing.
  • Handle vector data with OGR, geopandas, and manipulate structured data using pandas, numpy, and scipy.
  • Clearly communicate findings and visualizations to internal stakeholders and clients using Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Create project delivery plans, estimate timelines, and execute independently.
  • Work in cross-functional teams with scientists, engineers, and product managers.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, Remote Sensing, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proficiency in Python and geospatial libraries (e.g., GDAL, rasterio, xarray, geopandas).
  • Experience with SQL (e.g., MySQL) and cloud-native data workflows.
  • Strong data manipulation and visualization skills.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in environmental, conservation, or carbon markets-related work.
  • Familiarity with GCP services and containerized deployments.
  • Experience with parallel computing frameworks (Dask, multiprocessing).
