Your Team Responsibilities

The Senior Associate, External Communications will play a key role in supporting MSCI’s public relations efforts. Reporting to the Global Head of External Communications and working closely with the Americas External Communications Lead, this role will focus primarily on the Americas while also providing support to EMEA as needed. Responsibilities include executing day-to-day PR activities, helping manage media engagement, and ensuring consistent reporting and coordination across regions. 

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies. The ideal candidate is a communications professional with an interest in financial media and the ability to effectively support both proactive storytelling and reactive media opportunities. 

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Support PR efforts in the Americas, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with overall communications priorities. 

  • Work closely with the Americas External Communications Lead to coordinate media outreach, staff press interviews, draft statements, and track coverage, while providing ad hoc support to EMEA. 

  • Build and maintain relationships with financial, business, and trade journalists. 

  • Partner with internal stakeholders (e.g., Product Marketing, Research, and Business teams) to gather content and ensure effective execution of PR initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with the Marketing team on campaigns, ensuring alignment between PR activities and broader marketing objectives. 

  • Support media monitoring and reporting efforts, tracking coverage, analyzing results, and preparing regular updates for internal stakeholders. 

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and agency partners to ensure timely and strategic responses to media inquiries. 

  • Help manage PR agency relationships by coordinating requests, providing materials, and supporting execution of campaigns. 

  • Prepare written materials such as press releases, briefing notes, messaging and talking points to support campaigns, media interviews and external speaking engagements. 

  • Assist in identifying opportunities for executive visibility, including media placements and speaking opportunities. 

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for PR campaigns, including scheduling, reporting, and coordinating across regional teams. 

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

  • 5-8+ years of professional experience in public relations or journalism, preferably in financial services or a related industry. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Experience working with journalists and supporting media relations activities. 

  • Experience with media monitoring tools and reporting metrics. 

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Team player who thrives in a collaborative, global setting and can support colleagues across time zones. 

  • Experience with private markets and alternatives a plus.
