Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI Inc. seeks a dynamic Finance Technology Lead, with proven experience in delivering Technology Solutions for Finance and Business Technology stakeholders, to oversee the technology solutions that support our global Revenue Recognition and financial planning and analysis (FP&A) processes. This role will be part of the Business Technology department and located in India (Mumbai or Pune), working closely with finance and business stakeholders to ensure the systems that manage revenue contracts, performance obligations, core finance operations, and FP&A operate seamlessly and efficiently.

You will collaborate across regions and departments to ensure that technology solutions meet business needs and regulatory requirements, driving continuous improvements in Revenue Accounting processes, while ensuring compliance with controls and audit requirements.

The Finance Technology Lead will manage a team of direct reports and contractors to support the overall operations of both Financial Systems and Financial Processes.

Your Key Responsibilities

As the Finance Technology Lead, you will be responsible for driving global projects for the implementation, enhancement, and maintenance of both Finance Systems and Finance Processes to automate and streamline Revenue Recognition and FP&A operations. This includes working with ERP modules and ensuring integration with other financial and reporting tools. Your areas of responsibility will cover:

  • System Management for Revenue Recognition: Operate, maintain, and improve the systems that support Revenue Recognition processes, ensuring they are compliant with ASC 606 standards.
  • System Management for Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A): Oversee the systems supporting FP&A functions, ensuring integration with Revenue Recognition systems and financial reporting tools. Collaborate with the FP&A team to deliver system improvements that enhance forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes.
  • System Enhancements: Lead the identification, development, and implementation of system enhancements that automate and improve the accuracy and efficiency of Revenue Accounting and FP&A operations.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Business (finance, sales, sales operations, product, client services, etc.) and IT teams to translate Revenue Accounting and FP&A requirements into technical solutions. Ensure smooth integration of financial systems with other financial and operational platforms.
  • Project Management: Oversee projects related to system upgrades, new functionality deployments, and process automation initiatives. Ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure that the systems supporting revenue processes are compliant with internal controls and regulatory requirements, including SOX cycles, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and audit protocols.
  • Training and Support: Provide technical guidance and training to finance and IT teams on the systems and processes supporting Revenue Recognition. Act as the go-to expert for system-related inquiries and troubleshooting.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in revenue systems and processes, leveraging new technologies and best practices to optimize performance.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate system updates, enhancements, and issues to senior IT leadership and key stakeholders within the finance and business departments.

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

The ideal candidate for this Finance Technology Lead role has experience in the following domains:

  • Technical Expertise in ERP Systems: Extensive experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft, Oracle) focused on Revenue Recognition and FP&A. Experience in integrating with complementary business applications such as Salesforce, Concur, Vertex, or Workiva is helpful.
  • Revenue Accounting Knowledge: Familiarity with Revenue Recognition processes under ASC 606, specifically from a systems and automation perspective. Experience with Revenue Recognition modules like SAP Revenue Accounting and Reporting (RAR), RevPro, or Aptitude RevStream is helpful.
  • FP&A Knowledge: Familiarity with financial planning and analysis processes in finance and/or high-tech industries, specifically from a systems and automation perspective. Experience with FP&A modules like SAP BW/BPC or Board is helpful.
  • Project Management: Proven experience in managing global large-scale IT projects, particularly those involving financial systems implementation or upgrades.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Ability to effectively collaborate with finance, business, and IT teams to deliver technology solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Systems Integration: Strong understanding of systems integration principles, particularly as they relate to financial reporting and revenue management systems.
  • Compliance and Security: Knowledge of SOX compliance, internal controls, and system security requirements as they pertain to financial systems.
  • Problem-solving Skills: Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and provide efficient solutions.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Experience managing a team of IT professionals, providing leadership coaching, and guidance in system support and project execution.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Masters in Technology-related or Finance-related domain
  • Preferred Experience: 8-10 years of strong operational experience with SAP or similar ERP systems.
