Your Team Responsibilities

We are looking for an organized and collaborative researcher to join our Sustainability Research team. Our Research team is organized by sector, and we are looking to grow our Technology, Media & Telecoms (TMT) sector team. If you have views about the sustainability of the tech giants, or chip manufacturers, software companies or even gaming, media or telecoms companies, we’d like to hear from you. 

MSCI ESG Research is a market leader in producing research, data and tools to enable institutional investors to align their portfolios with their sustainability, climate and ESG goals. Our core product is ESG Ratings, which we produce for thousands of companies worldwide. We also produce climate change models and research, including emissions estimations, scenario analysis, temperature alignment and warming potential – in addition to other products. Our research helps to inform decisions of the world’s largest investors. 

 

Your Key Responsibilities

 

  • To oversee the ESG Ratings model implementation for your industry coverage (within the TMT sector). This includes methodology oversight and development, review and mentoring of junior analysts 
  • To regularly publish quality research content and analyze emerging ESG issues impacting the sector. Research may be published in a variety of forms including short and long form written content, interactive charts, blogs and podcasts 
  • To represent MSCI as a credible thought leader in client interactions, conferences, and other external events 
  • To collaborate with a wide range of teams across the world, including methodology and model teams, and other research team (e.g. equity research and index research teams) 
  • To continuously improve and challenge how we think, how we model ESG risks, and how we develop tools and solutions for ESG investors globally 

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

Specific Knowledge / Skills 

  • A relevant background for a research position 
  • A critical thinker with attention to detail and the ability to work with large data sets 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to collaborate across a diverse and growing global team 
  • A storyteller with excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a fast moving and fast growing field of research 
  • Passionate about sustainability and climate, with a desire to bring ESG into the mainstream investment process 
  • Python/R skills would be a bonus 

 

Desired Experience & Qualification 

  • Relevant experience within, or research experience covering industries and companies within the TMT sector 
  • A demonstrated interest in sustainability issues, although prior ESG research experience is not a must 
  • While flexible on the level, we are looking for at least 7 years of professional experience
  • Relevant experience within, or research experience covering data privacy and artificial intelligence topics
