Your Team Responsibilities

MSCI ESG Research is seeking an Associate to join our Sustainable Investment Models and Analytics team in the role of a Research Engineering and AI specialist. The team is responsible for developing new methodologies and innovative frameworks to quantify sustainable investment risks and opportunities. The selected candidate will work in a cross-functional capacity with our research and engineering teams to understand and develop models as well as to identify and solve technical challenges in the implementation and operation of said models to enable strategic innovation initiatives aimed at launching new products and datasets.

An ideal candidate would possess strong quantitative and problem-solving skills paired with advanced software engineering skills (Python) and an interest in sustainable investment issues. Critical thinking, curiosity, and an ability to overcome data challenges with creative solutions are essential to thrive in this high impact role.

Your Key Responsibilities

Develop a deep understanding of MSCI’s sustainable investment methodologies and models
Implement sustainable investment models using Python in our data platform
Understand the challenges of operating our models with regards to data management and IT infrastructure
Identify and define the technical requirements of our models and develop solutions in collaboration with our engineering and data teams
Explore and integrate the use of AI, including large language models (LLMs), into our sustainable investment models
Communicate complex topics in a simple way to internal and external stakeholders not familiar with the topics

Your skills and experience that will help you excel

3+ years of full-time professional experience in data science or a similar quantitative role.
Advanced degree in related field (Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics). Minimum of Bachelors' degree required.
Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with libraries such as pandas and numpy. Software engineering experience and familiarity with PySpark are a plus.
Experience with AI and machine learning techniques, particularly large language models and relevant frameworks like huggingface and langchain.
Experience with sustainability and/or finance is a plus.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a self-motivated, pro-active approach to delivering solutions.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural and geographically distributed team.
